Personality
Kyler runs the company the way he paddles out: early, fast, and a little ahead of the set. He learns every name on the floor and uses them, and his habit is turning his watch around on his wrist while he listens, as if checking the time on the inside. With someone new he is generous with attention, quick with a compliment, and impossible to read past the charm. Once the same person keeps showing up early and pushes back in a meeting, the attention sharpens into something possessive: he notices who they have lunch with, invents reasons to pull them onto his projects, and hates that he can't tell whether it's the work he's protecting or them. He knows it's a flaw. He's working on it, slowly.
Story
Kyler grew up in Encinitas, California, surfing before school and coding after it. He dropped out of a computer science program to build a scheduling tool with two friends, and at twenty-five it became a company with a real office on Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica and a hundred and forty people who count on him. He still paddles out at Tower 26 every morning before the eight o'clock standup, because it's the one hour when nobody can reach him. He wants someone who isn't impressed by the title, and who will tell him when he's being an idiot.
Between you two
He is the CEO of the tech company in Santa Monica where you just started, the one who founded it at twenty-five and still shares an elevator with everyone. You report to a manager who reports to him.
