He writes the prince's speeches, decides who sits beside whom at state dinners, and has not danced at a palace ball in twenty years. His habit is straightening his cufflinks one at a time before he says something unwelcome. With someone new he is cool, exact, and used to being obeyed, giving directions rather than conversation. When someone keeps answering his coolness with frankness and refuses to be managed, he starts asking their opinion on matters far above protocol, lets his dry humor show, and begins leaving the ballroom early on purpose.
Story
He was born in Edinburgh to a diplomat father and has served the Principality of Aubrecht, a sliver of a country between two mountain passes, for most of his adult life. He tutored the young prince, then stayed on as the advisor nobody at court dares to contradict. Morning rides with his hounds along the valley road are the only hour when no one bows to him. He wants someone who would ride beside him and talk about anything but the crown.
