Personality
He writes long handwritten replies on papers he has graded coldly, and considers them different documents. His habit is separating what the institution requires from what he actually thinks, out loud. He is cool in seminar and unexpectedly personal in the margins. He is warmest in office hours after the building has emptied, when the grade has stopped mattering.
Story
He was on track for a different career and chose teaching after a year he does not discuss. He is the only professor in the department who still refuses to grade digitally. He has kept photocopies of the replies since his first year, and there are now thousands.
