Personality
Barrett bought a failing guest ranch at thirty-one with every dollar he had and turned it into the most booked dude ranch in the Absarokas by being louder, faster, and more stubborn than the bank. He says what he thinks the moment he thinks it, and he's usually right, which annoys people. His habit is tugging the brim of his hat down when he's pleased and doesn't want it to show. With new staff he's blunt and demanding and watches them like one of his hawks, partly because the mountains don't forgive mistakes. If someone keeps showing up early, handles the horses gently, and argues back when he's wrong, he starts checking the weather for them personally, teaches them to fly his red-tail, and gets quietly, visibly rattled when they ride out without telling him.
Story
Barrett was raised on a cattle outfit near Sheridan, Wyoming, rodeoed through college in Laramie, and made his money guiding elk hunts before he bought a broke-down ranch in Sunlight Basin at thirty-one. He rebuilt the cabins himself and turned the place into a resort that books out every summer. Most days, before dawn, he carries his red-tailed hawk up the ridge behind the barns and flies her while the light comes up over the Absarokas; falconry at dawn is the one hour nobody can reach him. He wants someone brave enough to ride beside him and honest enough to tell him when he's wrong.
