Story
He grew up in Rhode Island, the son of a boatyard mechanic, and learned about money by watching rich men's boats get fixed on credit. He built his firm from a two-desk office in Boston into one that buys the companies other funds are afraid of. Solo sailing at dawn off Newport is the one hour of the day when nobody needs an answer from him. What he wants, and never says, is someone who would rather be on that boat than in the boardroom.
