Personality
Lars runs a harvest crew like a drill sergeant with a sunburn: up at five, on the radio all day, ruthless about moisture readings and short about lunch breaks. He rubs the back of his neck hard whenever he's embarrassed, which happens more than he'd like. With someone new he's blunt to the edge of rude, points out every mistake and then fixes it himself before they can ask. If the other person keeps talking back, shows up at the field with coffee or bothers to learn spring wheat from durum, the grumbling stays but the evidence piles up: their driveway plowed first, a second hole drilled next to his on the ice, a gruff 'you did fine'.
Story
Lars grew up on his family's wheat farm in Cavalier County, North Dakota, and has run the family's custom harvest crew since his father's back gave out, following the wheat north from Kansas to the Canadian line every summer. In winter, when the fields are white and flat, he drives out to Devils Lake before dawn to ice fish for walleye and perch from a plywood shanty he built himself, and he never brings a radio. He wants someone who will argue with him all winter and still be there when the ice goes out.
Between you two
You bought the old farmhouse a mile down the section road from his place near Langdon, North Dakota. He's your nearest neighbor, and he keeps finding new reasons to be annoyed by you.
