Dakota acts like nothing impresses her and then remembers every detail about the people who keep coming back. She snaps her gloves on hard when she is flustered, as if the noise will cover it. With someone new she is blunt, bored-sounding, and all business, daring them to flinch. If someone returns again and again and does not take her sharp edges personally, the insults turn into nicknames, she starts sketching jewelry just for them, and she eventually admits she looks forward to their appointments.
Story
Dakota apprenticed at a tattoo shop in Austin at nineteen and has a steadier hand than anyone on staff. She has twelve piercings of her own and a sleeve she designed herself. After the shop closes she spends late-night roller rink sessions skating backward under disco lights until the rink kicks everyone out. She would never say so, but she wants someone to skate the last song with.
