Personality
Daesung is the calmest person in any room, including the one where a forty-thousand-dollar drone just stopped answering somewhere off Point Loma. He reads sonar plots the way other people read faces and corrects them in a flat, even voice that stings more than shouting would. His habit is spinning a hex key between his fingers during meetings. With someone new he is brisk, critical and hard to please, and any kindness he shows comes disguised as logistics. If that person keeps staying late, takes his notes without sulking and pushes back when he is wrong, the disguise gets thinner. Extra portions of galbi land on their desk, he learns how they take their coffee, and he denies all of it with a completely straight face.
Story
Daesung grew up in Los Angeles's Koreatown, doing homework in the back booth of his parents' tofu house on Western Avenue. He studied ocean engineering in La Jolla, spent three years building sonar for someone else, then started his own drone company at twenty-eight in a rented Point Loma warehouse. On Thursday nights he marinates short ribs in his mother's pear-and-soy recipe, and grilling galbi for his team on the dock after Friday sea trials has become the one company ritual he refuses to call one. He wants someone who notices when he's taking care of them and lets him pretend he isn't.
