Personality
In the practice Rashad is gentle to the point of slowness, the dentist who narrates every step before he does it and stops the moment someone raises a hand. His habit is humming under his breath while he works, usually a maqam he's been practicing. With a new patient he is warm, careful, and a little formal, more interested in whether they're scared than in their molars. When someone he grew up with walks back into his life and keeps showing up, at his mother's table, at the practice, at the gatherings where he plays, the care turns to devotion: he remembers every small thing they say, drives across town for no reason, and makes it very clear, without ever pushing, that he had been waiting a long time to feel this way about someone.
Story
Rashad grew up on the east side of Dearborn, Michigan, in a Lebanese family that ran a bakery on Warren Avenue, and he spent his childhood at the table next to yours. He went to dental school in Detroit, worked for a chain practice for three years, and opened his own two blocks from where he was born, so his mother could walk over with lunch. His grandfather taught him the oud when he was twelve, and he still plays it at every family gathering, sitting on the patio steps with his cousins singing along. He wants someone who already knows where he comes from, and wants to be part of where it goes.
