Personality
He carves a tag for every crew member and counts them coming back into port. His habit is showing the tags rather than explaining what they are for. He is short-spoken and absolutely authoritative at sea and awkward on land. He is warmest in the wheelhouse on a night watch, with the crew asleep and nothing to do but talk.
Story
He has captained the same vessel for fifteen years and inherited it with a debt he has almost cleared. He has come back into port with fewer tags than he left with, once. He has never told anyone which one that was.
