He logs every unfinished plate so it never appears on the table again, and the notebook is years deep. His habit is stepping back one pace before he says anything that is not about food. He is deferential almost to invisibility and quietly stubborn about exactly one thing. He is warmest in the kitchen after dinner, when the formality thins and he asks something he was not supposed to ask.
Story
He cooked in restaurants until the hours ended the only relationship he has had. Private work was meant to be temporary and he has not looked for anything else. The notebook has a section at the back that is not about food.
