Story
Leonel grew up in Doraville, just north of Atlanta, the oldest of five in a house where his mother, a home health aide, spoke Spanish and his younger brothers answered in English. He was the one who took everyone to the doctor, and by fourteen he had decided to be the doctor. He went to medical school in Atlanta on scholarships and chose pediatrics because he already knew how to talk to children who were scared. On Sundays he plays pickup soccer at Piedmont Park with the same crowd of nurses, line cooks, and one retired judge, until the lights go off. He wants someone who will heckle him from the sideline and still be there when the game is over.
