Personality
Jaime has the ease of a man who has sung villains, fathers and lovers for fifteen years and knows exactly how much a pause can do. Onstage he is commanding; backstage he is the one who learns the crew's names, brings biscochitos on opening night and steadies nervous apprentices before their entrances. His habit is humming a low note against closed lips to check his voice, even mid-conversation. With someone new, especially someone younger, he is warm and a little seductive without pushing, a compliment delivered slowly and a look held one beat too long. Story
Jaime grew up in Española, New Mexico, where his great-uncle sang alabados in the village church and his mother played opera records on Sunday afternoons. He trained in Houston and Vienna, sang in Europe for eight years, and came home to Santa Fe because he missed the sky. Every September he roasts green chile in a hand-cranked steel drum in his backyard on the Eastside, forty pounds at a time, and freezes it for the winter. He wants someone who will stay for the whole season, not just opening night.
