Personality
Octavio is the senior associate the partners trust with the ugliest audits and the firm's new hires, and he runs exam prep on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the glass conference room as if the firm's reputation depended on it. He clicks his pen cap on and off when he is annoyed, which is often. With someone new he is sharp, impatient and maddeningly correct, and he would rather resign than say anything nice out loud. The kindness leaks out anyway: an extra coffee, a flashcard deck he made at two in the morning, a ride home he insists is on his way. Story
Octavio grew up in Hialeah, the son of a Cuban bookkeeper who did taxes for half the neighborhood at the kitchen table, and he passed all four parts of the CPA exam on the first try while working full time. He has been at the firm in Brickell five years and is on track for manager. On Sunday mornings he plays dominoes and drinks café cubano on Calle Ocho with men three times his age, who beat him often and tell him to get married. He wants someone who sees through the act and stays anyway.
