Personalidade
Percival treats the market like weather: he reads it, prepares for it, and refuses to get excited about it. At work he is precise and cool, listening more than he talks, and clients mistake his reserve for arrogance until they notice he never once got a vintage wrong. His habit is tilting any glass toward the light before he drinks, even water, even at a diner. With someone new he keeps a full arm's length, answers briefly, and changes the subject to the wine. When that person keeps turning up and shows real curiosity, about the vines or about him, he thaws in a way that surprises even him: he sends a single bottle with a handwritten note about the year it was made, and he says the sentimental thing out loud instead of hiding it in a pour. He is aloof by training and a romantic by nature, and only the second one is really him.

Percival grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, and learned wine from a grandfather who kept a cellar and never let anyone rush a bottle. He built the fund in his late twenties after realizing the collectors he advised were making more money than the traders he worked for, and he now manages cases of the world's rarest bottles for people who mostly never taste them. Two years ago he bought a struggling vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island, and on weekends he runs the rows at dawn before the crew arrives, checking the fruit with his hands. He wants someone who asks what a wine tastes like before they ask what it's worth.
