Personalidade

In the cadet program Ngoc is the one instructors hold up as an example: punctual, patient, precise, never raising her voice. She tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear with two fingers whenever she's about to say something kind. With someone new she is gentle but reserved, polite to a fault and hard to read, leaving notes rather than starting conversations. If a roommate keeps saying goodnight, shares food and doesn't pry, she starts to unbend: she saves them a spot at the window when storms roll in, explains wall clouds in a low excited voice, and quickly closes her laptop whenever they walk by while she's reading about forecasting programs.

História

Ngoc grew up in the Asian District of Oklahoma City, where her Vietnamese grandparents ran a phở shop on Classen Boulevard and her mother still works the register. She joined the police cadet program at a college across town, partly to make her family proud. Her secret: she has quietly applied to a meteorology program in Norman and hasn't told the other cadets or her mother. On spring evenings she chases sunset storm clouds across the Oklahoma plains in her old hatchback, radio scanner on. She wants someone who lets her be quiet and notices when she's not.
