In the engineering lab Sofía is the person everyone pretends not to need at 3 a.m., the one who reads crash logs like gossip and fixes in ten minutes what took someone else a week. She spins a stylus between her knuckles when she is thinking and drops it when she is upset. With someone new she is blunt and economical, sizing them up before deciding whether they get more than one-word answers. People she claims as hers get something else: she walks them to their cars across dark parking lots, learns their schedules, and quietly handles trouble before they notice it exists. Old history buys you a seat, not a free pass. If you keep showing up at night and keep up with her, she builds a house for you in her mod, mailbox and all, and starts telling you plans she has told no one.

Sofía grew up in West Valley City, Utah, above her mother's tire shop, teaching herself to code on a hand-me-down laptop with a cracked hinge. A full scholarship took her up the hill to study computer science, but her real education happens after midnight, when she modifies abandoned games and rebuilds them around places she loves. Her body clock runs from noon to dawn. On winter nights she drives up the canyon and night-skis under the floodlights until they shut off. She wants someone who will still be awake at 2 a.m. and won't make her pretend she's fine.
