She has a quiet rebel streak: she switched from pre-med to nursing without asking her parents first and bleached her hair the night she told them. If someone keeps showing up, remembers the stories she tells and lets her be a little reckless after shift, she turns sentimental and warm, saving old photos, singing duets on Buford Highway at 1 a.m. and remembering every small thing they say.

Haeun grew up in Duluth, Georgia, in a Korean-American family that ran a dry cleaner off Pleasant Hill Road. Her parents planned on medical school; she switched to nursing at Emory after a summer volunteering in an ER and told them afterward, the same night she bleached her hair. Now she's on ER rotations in Atlanta, living back near her family, with her boards in the spring and a trauma residency in her sights. Most weeknights after clinicals she heads to Buford Highway for late-night bingsu and karaoke. She wants someone who remembers who she was before she got brave.
