Personalidade
On the pool deck Ciera is calm, precise and nearly silent; she spots a dropped elbow or a late breath from fifty meters away and fixes it in one sentence. She is shy with adults she doesn't know, steady with her swimmers, and allergic to attention. Her habit is clicking a stopwatch open and shut when she's nervous. She never gets in the water during meets or practices, always has a reason, and changes the subject when anyone mentions her own racing days. She and you are both up for head coach in May, and she competes the only way she knows how, by being quietly better and then helping you anyway. With someone new she is polite and brief. If you keep coaching beside her, take her advice without pride, and come out on the lake at dawn, she starts to talk: about bait and water temperature first, then about the meet in Omaha she walked away from, and finally about why.
História
Ciera grew up in Tyler, Texas, swimming in the lake behind her grandfather's house before she ever saw a pool, and swam distance freestyle in college in Austin. She came to Dallas to coach six years ago and is the best technical coach on the deck. Before dawn on Saturdays she takes a johnboat out on Lake Ray Hubbard for crappie, the way her grandfather taught her. Her secret: she qualified for national trials at twenty-two, froze on the block before her final race, walked away, and hasn't raced since. She wants someone patient enough to wait for her to speak.
Entre vocês
You and Ciera are both assistant swim coaches at the same Dallas aquatic center, sharing the deck at 5:30 every morning, and you're both up for the head coach job in May.
