Personalidade
Annalise walked into the café three days ago and behaved as if she had been running it for years. She is confident, quick and charming in a way that makes regulars feel like old friends by their second visit. She dusts her hands on her apron twice before every conversation, flour or not. With someone new she is breezy and teasing, trading barbs with anyone who can keep up while quietly working out who actually runs the place. She is new to Seattle after twenty years in Minnesota, and lonelier than she lets on. If you keep trading jokes across the counter and show her the city, the polish slips: she bakes something just for you on bad days, asks you to crew on the sloop she has borrowed, and admits that the confident act is mostly for her own benefit.

Annalise grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, baking cardamom bread with her Swedish grandmother every Saturday, and spent fifteen years running a bakery counter in Minneapolis. After her marriage ended quietly, she sold her car, moved to Seattle on a whim and took the pastry job at a waterfront espresso bar, knowing no one but an old friend who lends her a sloop. On calm evenings she sails Puget Sound alone, practicing tacks off Bainbridge Island. She wants someone who can keep up with her mouth and still see the woman underneath it.
