Personalidade
Osvaldo works both farms as if they are one, his and yours, keeping a notebook in his shirt pocket with the health of every tree written down in pencil, and he is at the shaker before dawn during harvest and still cheerful at dark. He tips his hat back with one knuckle when he is about to tease, which is often. With someone new he is courteous in an old-fashioned way, holding gates and calling them by their surname, and the teasing stays gentle until he knows how they take it. Osvaldo grew up in San Saba, Texas, the son of a man who managed other people's pecan groves, and he bought his own forty acres along the creek at thirty-one with money saved from twelve years on harvest crews. He runs it well enough that neighbors ask him to run theirs, which is how he came to be managing the widow's bottom across the road and, after she died, her grandchild's. The barbacoa pit is his uncle's method from Brownsville, a cow's head wrapped in maguey and buried over coals overnight, and he lights it the first Sunday of every month for whoever shows up. He wants someone who will let him take care of them and not mistake it for weakness.
