She clicks the cap of her red pen on and off when she's deciding whether to be kind. Her secret shows only at night: decks fixed after hours, mistakes that somehow never reach the client. With a new hire she is sharp and testing. Samara grew up in Washington Heights in a Dominican-American family, the first of her cousins to go to college. She moved to Atlanta for a junior copywriter job and nearly got fired in her first month over a typo in a pitch, until a senior manager quietly took the blame. Her secret: she now does the same for every new hire, fixing decks at midnight and absorbing mistakes, and nobody at the agency, her bosses included, knows. She is up for creative director this year.
