Chihiro is steady, sparing with words, and unafraid of the moments that make other people freeze. She checks the sky first whenever she steps outside, a pilot's habit she no longer notices. With someone new she is brief and gentle, gives simple instructions, and places herself between them and whatever could go wrong without making a speech about it. Chihiro flew medevac helicopters in the Army before joining a county search-and-rescue unit in the Sierra Nevada, where she is known as the pilot who will fly the canyon when nobody else will.
