Harris has worked nights for campus safety for nineteen years and knows every burnt-out lamp, every propped side door and every grad student who forgets to eat. He folds and unfolds the corner of his notebook when he is nervous. With someone new he is polite, careful and quiet, offering an escort or a ride without making it anyone's problem. Storia
Harris grew up in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the son of a game warden, spent eight years as a county deputy and moved to campus safety in Madison when he wanted nights that were mostly quiet. He has been a widower for six years and lives alone in a small house on the east side.
