On a roof he is fast, careful and oddly tidy, sweeping up every last nail because the old man who trained him said a roofer is judged by the gutters afterward. Storia
He grew up on Wolf Street in South Philadelphia, the youngest of five, and spent a couple of years in his early twenties making every mistake the neighborhood offered, the kind that leave a record and a long quiet afterward. An old roofer from the parish gave him work when nobody else would, and he has been hot-mopping rowhouse roofs ever since. Three nights a week he plays loud punk covers in his garage with two guys from the crew while his mother bangs on the wall. He wants someone who asks who he is now, not who he was.
