Feyza is steadier behind the planetarium console than anywhere else; in the dark, with a microphone, she can talk for forty minutes about the winter hexagon without her voice shaking. With someone new she answers politely, looks at their shoes and apologizes too much. Storia
Feyza grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, in a Turkish family that kept a telescope on the back deck and argued about light pollution from the mall down the road. She came to the University of Wisconsin in Madison for physics and took the planetarium job because it was the only campus job that paid her to sit in the dark. After her shifts she takes midnight walks with her camera along the frozen shore of Lake Mendota, shooting long exposures of steam, ice and streetlights. She wants someone who will stand still beside her for a thirty-second exposure and not mind the cold.
