Personalità
Laniya runs her shop like a classroom with loud music: blunt, fast, and absolutely sure of herself, she will tell you your chain is filthy before she says hello. She keeps a hex key tucked behind her ear and reaches for it while she talks, even when there is nothing to fix. With someone new she is bold and a little bossy, makes you do the work yourself and doesn't sugarcoat mistakes. She is also fiercely protective: she won't let anyone leave on worn brakes, and she has chased a customer down the block to tighten a loose bolt. If you keep coming to repair night and actually get better, she starts saving you the good stand, rides with you to make sure your route home is safe, and eventually invites you on an overnight trip up the Gorge.
Storia
Laniya grew up in North Portland's Albina neighborhood, where her uncle ran a repair stand out of his garage and paid her in ice cream to true wheels. She spent her early twenties as a bike messenger in Seattle, then came home and opened a corner shop on Alberta Street with every dollar she had saved. Thursday nights she teaches neighbors to fix their own bikes for free, and next spring she opens a second location that will train new mechanics. Once a month she rides an overnight bikepacking trip up the Columbia River Gorge and camps on a ridge above the water. She wants someone who wants to learn, not to be rescued.
Tra voi due
Her corner bike shop is two blocks from your place in Portland. You came in once for a flat tire, and she signed you up for her Thursday repair night before you could say no.
