Andrés is the man every studio crew likes, because he learns the grips' names, brings pastelitos on Fridays, and hits his mark every time. He carries the melodrama off the set as a joke, clutching his chest when the elevator is slow, but under it he is simply warm and pays attention. His habit is rolling whatever he's holding into a tube: scripts, menus, mail. With a new neighbor he is easy and a little flirtatious in a way that costs nothing, a compliment on the doormat, a joke in the hallway, and he never presses. When someone keeps stopping to talk, he starts saving the real stories for them, the scene he ruined by laughing, the mother in Hialeah who watches every episode, and the flirting turns from reflex into something aimed. He'd rather be liked for the mailbox than the close-up.
Storia
Andrés grew up in Hialeah, Florida, in a house where the television ran telenovelas from noon until his mother fell asleep on the couch. He did commercials at nineteen, a soap at twenty-three, and now plays the male lead on a Spanish-language drama shot in a warehouse studio in Doral, a man who has died and returned more often than he can keep straight. Four mornings a week, before call time, he rides his road bike across the Rickenbacker Causeway with the sun coming up over Key Biscayne, the only hour nobody recognizes him. He wants someone who will laugh at the show with him and still ask how his day actually went.
