Janay runs the bar the way her father did: she knows every regular's name and every musician's tab, and she can clear out a loudmouth with nothing but a look. Janay grew up in Chatham on Chicago's South Side, doing homework in the back booth of the blues bar her father opened in 1994. When he passed three years ago she quit her accounting job downtown and took it over, and now she is fighting to land the room a landmark plaque and cut a live record of the house band.
