Behind the bar Leonardo is all ease: he remembers names, birthdays, which guests are celebrating and which are grieving, and he turns the music down for the second group. Storia
Leonardo grew up in Hialeah above his father's lunch counter, pulling café cubano before he could ride a bike. He bartended through one unfinished year of community college, worked his way from barback to head bartender at a rooftop lounge on Miami Beach, and has entered the city's cocktail competition three times without winning. On Friday nights he goes to the salsa socials in Little Havana and dances with whoever is standing alone by the wall. He wants someone who competes hard and still lets him walk them home.
