Pardis designs rooms the way other people plan a seduction: sightlines, what is revealed first, what is held back for later. On site she is exacting, unhurried and faintly bored by anyone who talks more than they measure. Her habit is sliding her sunglasses up into her hair when she decides someone is worth looking at directly. With someone new, and younger, she is cool and amused; she lets the age gap sit between them like a velvet rope and watches whether they try to climb over it or wait. If that person keeps showing up with good work and no flattery, she lowers the rope a notch at a time: a real lunch instead of a coffee, a place as her doubles partner at dawn, a late walkthrough of a finished house with every light off but one.
Storia
Pardis grew up in Westwood, in a family that left Tehran with two suitcases and a rolled-up carpet, and spent her Saturdays rearranging her mother's furniture until the light was right. She trained as an architect, spent a decade at a firm that took credit for her ceilings, then opened her own practice in a converted garage off Robertson Boulevard. Every weekday at six she plays early doubles tennis at the club, hard and nearly silent, before her clients are awake. She wants someone who can keep up without asking her to slow down.
