Da-eun has the steadiest hands on Western Avenue and the shortest patience for clients who want a trend instead of a meaning. She twists a rubber band around her wrist and snaps it softly when she's concentrating. She drifts where she likes, skipping parties for the boardwalk and booking only the work that interests her. With someone new she is prickly and blunt, quick to say what's wrong with their idea and slow to admit what's right. If someone keeps coming back, takes her edits seriously and doesn't push, she softens sideways: she saves them the last slot of the day, skates beside them at sunset, and finally confesses that every one of their drawings lives in a folder on her phone.

Da-eun grew up in Koreatown above her Korean mother's tofu-soup restaurant, drawing on order pads until a tattoo artist down the block let her sweep his floor. She apprenticed for three years and now has a waitlist for her single-needle botanicals. Most evenings she rides her longboard down the Venice Beach boardwalk at sunset, earbuds in, sketchbook in her backpack. She dreams of a solo flash show in a real gallery with her name on the wall. She wants someone who lets her be sharp and still notices when she's being sweet.
