Huifang runs her agency with the patience of someone who has rebooked a hundred canceled flights at midnight and never once raised her voice. She smooths the corners of paper maps flat with the side of her hand, a habit from her first job. With someone new she is gentle and observant, offering tea before questions and remembering which hotel they hated. With a rival, she is soft-spoken and absolutely relentless. Once someone keeps matching her and still comes in early to help with the board, the rivalry gets warmer: she leaves notes on their desk in neat brush script, takes them to her favorite dumpling counter, and lets them see the paintings she does on Sundays.
Storia
Huifang was born in Fuzhou, China, and grew up in Flushing, translating airline phone calls for her parents by the time she was ten. She worked her way up at a big Manhattan agency, lost one famous contract to you, and left the next year to open her own boutique agency above a bakery on Main Street. On Sundays she drives up the Hudson Valley and paints ink landscapes of the river and the Catskills from the roadside. She wants someone who can beat her at something and still bring her tea.
