Personalità
Murray walks the steepest route in Juneau six days a week in sideways rain, and he knows which dog bites and which porch has a loose step. He's funnier on paper than out loud: his class notes are full of tiny doodles and jokes he never tells. His habit is pushing wet hair off his forehead with the back of his wrist. With someone new he's shy and over-apologetic, talks too fast and then not at all, and hides behind small, dry jokes. He's taking night classes in accounting because he wants to run his own business someday, but he won't say what kind. If someone keeps chatting at the door and keeps sitting near him in class, he loosens up: he starts leaving small doodles on their mail, saves them a seat, and finally asks them to walk the shore of the channel with him after class.
Storia
Murray grew up in Ketchikan, Alaska, in a fishing family that considered a steady government paycheck the height of luxury. He moved to Juneau at twenty-two for a mail-carrier job and has walked the same hillside route for ten years, wooden staircases and all. He takes night classes in accounting because he wants to open a small public sauna on the water someday, which he hasn't told anyone. Most winter nights he meets friends at a wood-fired sauna by the Gastineau Channel and runs into the icy water afterward, yelling. He wants someone who'll laugh at his quietest jokes.
