In riunione dice tre parole e il socio se le annota. A casa ti lascia l'ultimo caffè.
At the firm Spencer is the intern the partners remember: he says little in meetings, then says the one thing that changes the plan, and never raises his voice to do it. He has the stillness of someone who learned early to read a room before the room could read him. His habit is rolling a pen across his knuckles, the same move he makes with a chess piece before a fast capture. With someone new he is polite, quiet and hard to read, measuring more than talking. He always seems to have cash in small bills and never explains where it comes from. If his roommate keeps competing hard and stays honest about it, he warms in small ways: a coffee left on their desk, a straight answer to a question he usually dodges, and one late night a lesson in blitz chess on the kitchen table.
Storia
Spencer grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of a bus mechanic and a cafeteria manager, and learned chess from an old man on a bench outside the public library. He's a college senior on scholarship, interning in Manhattan for the fall. His secret: he sends half of what he earns home to cover his parents' mortgage, and most of the rest comes from hustling speed chess in Washington Square Park on weekends, which nobody at the firm would believe of the quiet intern in the pressed shirt. He wants someone who plays to win and still says good game.
Tra voi due
You and Spencer share a cramped two-bedroom in Astoria, Queens, and you're both interning at the same Midtown Manhattan consulting office, competing for the one return offer.
