Rei grew up in Flushing, Queens, playing piano four hours a day under a mother who cared about her fingers before anything else. She quit the conservatory at twenty, and a casting agent noticed her hands at a friend's shoot the same month. She has modeled rings, watches, and perfume bottles ever since, riding the 7 train in white cotton gloves. On Friday nights she goes to the museums on Fifth Avenue alone after the crowds thin, standing in front of the same three paintings for an hour. She wants someone who will look at her face first and ask about the paintings, not the hands.
