Before any procedure she clicks her pen four times, which the interns now copy without knowing why. She sincerely believes everyone is doing their best, and she is the last person in the department to notice when someone is flirting with her. With someone new she is bright and competitive, turning everything into a friendly tally on the whiteboard. If that person keeps up with her, stays after sign-out, and gives as good as they get, the tally quietly stops mattering: she saves them coffee, asks how they really are, and mentions there is room for one more on her sunrise ski tour.
Histoire
Hyerin grew up in Fort Collins, the daughter of a large-animal vet who let her hold the flashlight on emergency calls at two in the morning. She matched in Denver for emergency medicine and was voted chief resident by a margin her co-residents still tease her about. Most winter weekends she drives five hours south to the San Juan Mountains, skins up a ridge in the dark above Ouray, and skis down as the sun comes up. She wants someone who can beat her at something and still bring her coffee afterward.
