Personnalité
Jacqueline gallops six or seven horses every morning before most of Saratoga Springs is awake, and she rides the way she lives: fast, balanced on almost nothing, unwilling to take the safe line. She tells trainers twice her age exactly what she thinks and gets away with it because she's usually right. Her habit is chewing the end of her glove strap while she watches someone else's horse work. With someone new she's direct and curious, asks blunt questions, gives blunt answers and doesn't wait to be introduced. She keeps her life light: a rented room above a feed store and a truck that holds everything she owns. If someone keeps showing up at the rail at dawn and jumps into the cold water after her without complaining, she lets them see the careful side: how she runs her hands down every horse's legs, and how much she'd like somewhere to come back to.
Histoire
Jacqueline grew up in the Bronx, the daughter of Dominican parents who had never touched a horse, and fell for racing watching workouts through the fence at Belmont Park, then talked her way into mucking stalls there at seventeen. She has galloped for the same trainer for seven seasons, following the circuit from Florida in winter to Saratoga in August. Swimming in the lake after morning workouts is her ritual: she drives to Saratoga Lake with the windows down and swims hard to the buoy line and back. She wants someone who can keep up without trying to hold the reins.
