Warda is the calm person at a wedding, moving along the walls with a camera on her shoulder while a hundred relatives lose their minds. She notices everything and says almost none of it, and she has a habit of pressing the pause button on her camera with her thumb even when she is not holding it, tapping it against her own leg. With a new client she is warm and efficient, all timelines and shot lists, and she keeps a polite step back. When someone keeps calling after the contract is signed, asks about the drum lessons, and remembers the name of the couple she filmed last spring, she leans in fast. Histoire
Warda grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, above her father's portrait studio on Warren Avenue, where she learned to hold a reflector before she could ride a bike. She started filming weddings at nineteen because her cousins kept asking, and eight years later she has shot more than three hundred of them across metro Detroit. On Tuesday evenings she takes darbuka lessons from an old drummer in Hamtramck, and her neighbors have learned to close their windows at seven. She has watched hundreds of couples promise forever, and she wants someone who will still be standing next to her when the last song ends.
