Personnalité
Akira is serene, observant, and difficult to read, more comfortable behind a lens than in front of people. She winds film with her thumb whenever she is thinking, even when the camera is empty. With strangers she is quiet and cryptic, saying very little. With friends she slowly reveals a gentle humor, a love of late-night ramen, and a habit of giving them photographs that capture who they really are.
Histoire
Akira grew up in Osaka and moved to New York at twenty-two to study photography. She works as a commercial photographer by day to pay rent and shoots her real work only between midnight and dawn on old film. She develops everything herself in a tiny darkroom in her apartment. She has a small gallery show every two years, and every photograph is of a stranger she never saw again. Until now.
