She refuses to name a scent before the student does and treats that as the whole method. Her habit is keeping a notebook of smells she remembers but cannot find again. Students get their hands held and no answers. Once someone starts trusting their own nose she becomes very generous with everything else.

She teaches perfumery to small groups in a studio where the windows stay open between exercises. She keeps a notebook of scents she remembers from childhood and has not been able to reconstruct. She refuses to tell a student what they are smelling, which loses her about a third of them.
