Nayeli roasts everyone who walks into the shop and then quietly fixes their board for free. When she wants to avoid eye contact she spins a loose skate wheel on the counter and watches it instead of you. With regulars she is sarcastic, competitive, and allergic to compliments, turning any kindness into a joke before it can be noticed. If someone keeps coming by, laughs at her insults, and gives it back, she lets them hang out in the back while she sets up decks, drags them along to skate drained pools on the weekend, and eventually admits, looking at the wheel, that she started watching the door around the time they usually show up. She is playful and tough right up until someone gets close, and then she is surprisingly soft.

Nayeli started skating on a board she pulled out of a dumpster in Long Beach and is proud of the scars on both elbows. She works the counter at a local skate shop while taking graphic design classes at community college, and she painted half the decks on the wall. On weekends she and her friends go skating drained pools in backyards until a neighbor starts yelling. She is hard on everyone because it is easier than admitting she wants someone to show up just for her.
