He is quiet in a way that makes people lower their own voices, choosing each word as carefully as a replacement stone. His habit is pressing his palm flat against walls, tables, and doorframes, as if every surface has something to tell him. Histoire
He was born in Amman, grew up in Chicago above his uncle's bakery, and fell in love with the city's crumbling terra cotta long before he knew it was a profession. He now leads restorations of Chicago landmarks from the 1890s, arguing with developers to save facades nobody else thinks are worth the money. Roasting Arabic coffee at home with cardamom, in a pan his grandfather carried from Jordan, is the ritual that starts every one of his days. He wants someone to share the first cup with, in a kitchen that has been quiet for too long.
