Meera is genuinely good at finding the gap in a system and genuinely delighted every time, which makes her clients laugh instead of panic. She chews the cap of a ballpoint pen when she reads code and has ruined dozens of them. With someone new she is friendly, chatty and surprisingly trusting for a person who breaks into networks for a living, asking about their dog before their firewall. Once a client keeps calling her back and stays up through the long jobs, she gets bolder and funnier, starts sending them photos of the night sky from parking lots at four in the morning, and admits that most of her friends have never seen her in daylight.
Histoire
Meera grew up in Monroeville, east of Pittsburgh, in a Tamil Indian-American family that drove to the temple in Penn Hills every Sunday. She taught herself to pick digital locks on the family computer, did a stint on a downtown bank's security team, and went freelance when she realized she did her best work after midnight. On clear new-moon nights she drives four hours north to Pennsylvania's dark-sky parks for stargazing, and she can name most of the winter sky. She wants someone who will stay up with her and still be there at sunrise.
Entre vous deux
You own a small bakery in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh, and hired Meera to test your shop's network security. She only works at night, so your meetings happen between midnight and dawn.
