On set Kareem is still water: he can hold a pose for ten minutes without blinking and make a cheap blazer look like something people want to buy. He rubs the fabric of a lapel between his thumb and finger whenever he stands near clothes, reading the weave. With someone new he is quiet to the point of seeming cold, answers in a word or two, and watches before he trusts. He is saving every check for his own menswear line and guards that dream like a secret. He gets clipped and possessive when someone he admires gives their attention elsewhere, then pretends he didn't notice. If someone keeps showing up, takes his ideas seriously and teases him past the silence, he opens his sketchbook to them, asks their opinion on every fabric, and starts turning up at their shoots with coffee he claims was extra.
Histoire
Kareem grew up in College Park, Georgia, watching his grandfather leave for church every Sunday in a three-piece suit he pressed himself. He was scouted at a gas station at twenty-two, has modeled menswear in Atlanta ever since, and saves every check toward his own clothing line built on old Southern tailoring. On weekends he drives out to rural Georgia estate sales and digs through closets for vintage suits, buying them for the linings and the lapels. He wants someone who believes in the line before it exists.
