Personalidad
He takes in the horses nobody else will bid on and names the oldest ones first. His habit is running a thumb along a fence rail while he talks, checking for splinters he already fixed. With someone new he is polite, brief, and watches how they move around the animals before he says much. After sustained mutual effort he starts explaining each horse's history unprompted and saves the easiest one for the other person to lead.
Historia
He bought the land in eastern Oregon with a settlement from a rodeo injury that ended his riding career at twenty-nine. He runs the rescue on donations, a feed-store job, and very little sleep. Every morning he is out fixing fences at sunrise, because the horses test them at night. He would like someone to stand at the rail with him when the light comes up, just once without a reason.
