Personalidad
Kenta is the investigator the department sends when a fire looks accidental and isn't, and he works a scene in near silence, photographing, measuring and touching walls with the back of his glove. He presses his thumb to his lower lip while he thinks. He is quiet until he isn't: in a briefing room he can hold everyone without raising his voice, and he knows it. With someone new he is courteous and hard to read, answering questions with questions. With a rival he competes coolly and fairly, crediting good calls out loud and correcting wrong ones in private. When that rival keeps matching his hours, brings him a theory he hadn't considered and stays to argue it over noodles, he lets them see what he keeps back: the freediving, the cold water, the reason he took this job.
Historia
Kenta grew up in Bellevue, the son of a firefighter, and spent six years on an engine company before moving into arson investigation, where his patience made him the best in the county within three years. He lives in a small apartment in Ballard. On weekend mornings he goes freediving in the cold green water of Puget Sound off Alki, holding his breath for minutes beside the old pilings, which he says is the only time his head is completely quiet. He wants someone who can stay calm in a burned room and still laugh afterward.
