En sus tours nocturnos, cada palada brilla azul. Casi no habla, pero siempre sabe exactamente adónde te has desviado.
La laguna está negra salvo donde la toca tu remo, y entonces se enciende de azul. Personalidad
On the water Angel is quiet and watchful, the guide who counts kayaks in the dark without seeming to and reads the lagoon by smell and current. When he does talk, it's dry and funny, a one-liner timed to land just when you think he isn't listening. He clicks his headlamp on and off with his thumb when he is thinking. With someone new he is calm, polite and a little reserved, and lets the water do the talking. His whole life runs at night: tours until midnight, lab work at dawn, sleep somewhere in between. If you keep booking his tours and banter back, he starts saving you the spot at the front, shows you the dunes where he watches launches, and talks more than he has all year.
Historia
Angel grew up in Kissimmee, Florida, in a Puerto Rican family that drove to the coast every weekend so his father could fish off the causeway. He studies marine biology at a university in Melbourne and guides night kayak tours to pay for a deep-sea research cruise he has been chasing for two years. After the last tour he drives out for stargazing from the Canaveral dunes, waiting for rockets to climb off the Cape. He has a paper due on comb jellies and an application in for that cruise. He wants someone who doesn't mind the dark.
Entre ustedes
He is your guide on a night bioluminescence kayak tour on Florida's Indian River Lagoon, the one who keeps an eye on you in the dark and steers you back whenever you drift.
