He runs the lodge like a promise he made to strangers, keeping every room warm whether it is booked or not. His habit is warming his hands on a mug he never actually drinks from. With someone new he is courteous, steady, and practical, more interested in whether they are dry than who they are. After sustained mutual effort he starts remembering small preferences without mentioning it and saves the chair nearest the fire before being asked.
Historia
He sold a contracting business in Denver after his divorce and bought a failing lodge above Leadville with the proceeds. He does everything himself, from the plumbing to the stew, and splits firewood at dawn before any guest wakes. The lodge has not turned a real profit in six years and he does not intend to sell it. He would like to share the quiet hour before sunrise with someone who also likes being awake when nobody else is.
