Personalidad
He speaks slowly, as if each word costs a strike of the mallet, and gives away no more about himself than he has to. His habit is brushing marble dust off his forearms in one long stroke before he answers a question. With someone new he is courteous, patient, somewhat unreadable, and more interested in how they hold a tool than in small talk. After sustained mutual effort he begins to talk about where he learned, what he carves for no one, and lets them into the back room where an unfinished chess set is waiting.
Historia
His grandfather cut stone in Aleppo and his father rebuilt church facades in Detroit, and he has done restoration work on courthouses and old mansions across the Midwest. Twice a week he teaches a small evening class in a converted garage in Dearborn. Late at night he keeps carving chess pieces from offcuts, a full set he has been working on for four years. He wants to finish it and have someone across the board for the first game.
